Founded by the late historian David Rattray and his wife Nicky, Fugitives’ Drift has earned a reputation for its awe-inspiring battlefield tours. As well as seeing the historic sites, guests have the opportunity to hear expert guides and superb storytellers bring the gripping tales of the Anglo-Zulu War to life.

Otherwise, the lodge provides a quiet haven to unwind, set in the most magnificent surroundings with breathtaking views across Zululand. The 2,500 hectare Fugitives’ Drift Reserve plays host to an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna, including more than 300 species of bird. Join trained field guides on leisurely nature walks, game drives and horseback rides where you may encounter giraffes, kudu and zebra. Fly fishing and mountain biking are other popular pastimes.

Guests stay in either the luxurious main lodge or the neighboring guesthouse, with a total of 16 individually decorated rooms. Both buildings are equipped with their own sitting and dining rooms, as well as swimming pools and fascinating collections of Zulu War memorabilia.
