RUGGED GRANDEUR
Home to some of the country’s most iconic attractions, a foray into the ‘Land of Princes’ is a must on any Indian adventure. And where better to start than in Delhi; a bustling metropolis where you can revel in grand boulevards, immerse yourself in the colors of the ancient Chandni Chowk market and admire the imposing Red Fort, the largest and last of the great Mughal bastions.
From Delhi, you can make your way to Agra in Uttar Pradesh, setting of the most famous of Indian monuments – the Taj Mahal. 20,000 craftsmen took 22 years to build this architectural masterpiece, whose white marble shifts from soft pink at dawn to a deep gold in the moonlight. Complete your tour of the Golden Triangle at the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur, the rose-hued capital of Rajasthan where you’ll discover attractions like the Moon Palace, Royal Observatory and spectacular Amber Fort.
After you’ve ticked off the classic combination of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, you’ll find a world of wonders still awaits. The jaw-dropping Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur, for example, with its intricately decorated sandstone exterior. Udaipur, India’s most romantic city, presents you with marble palaces, sparkling blue lakes and verdant hillsides. The 12th-century fort of Jaisalmer, rising like a jewel from the sands of the Great Thar Desert, allures with its narrow twisting lanes, magnificent havelis and intricate Jain Temples.
Beyond the main cities, you’ll uncover ancient rural traditions that have little changed with the passage of time, exquisite heritage hotels and desert camps. Not forgetting Ranthambore National Park, one of the country’s most celebrated wildlife reserves where you can catch a glimpse of the Royal Bengal tiger amongst various other species.
